Saturn Return

The astrological event in which transiting Saturn returns to the exact zodiac position it occupied at someone's birth, occurring around ages 28–30 and again around 58–60.

A Saturn return happens when transiting Saturn comes back to the exact zodiac degree where it was at your birth. Because Saturn takes approximately 29.5 years to complete one orbit, the first Saturn return occurs around age 28–30, the second around 58–60, and (rarely, for the very long-lived) the third around 87–89.

The first Saturn return is the most famous and most heavily written about. It commonly coincides with a major life-direction reckoning: career changes, relationships ending or formalizing, the felt sense that childhood is over and adulthood is being chosen rather than defaulted into. People often describe this period as one of pressure, restructuring, and the loss of things that were not built to last. The structures that survive the first Saturn return tend to define the next 30 years.

The second Saturn return, around age 58–60, is less written about but equally significant. It often coincides with another phase shift — career endings, retirement decisions, the beginning of an explicit reckoning with mortality. The structures built during the first Saturn return are now stress-tested again.
