Sextile

A 60-degree aspect between two planets, considered mildly supportive and opportunity-bearing, weaker than the trine but in the same harmonious family.

A sextile is a 60-degree angular relationship between two planets. Sextile planets are always two signs apart and almost always in compatible elements: fire signs sextile air signs, and earth signs sextile water signs. This compatibility produces an aspect that feels supportive without being as strong or as automatic as a trine.

In interpretation, the sextile is treated as an aspect of opportunity. Where a trine indicates a talent that runs by itself, a sextile indicates a possibility that can be activated if the chart owner reaches for it. A Venus sextile Jupiter person has access to charm and generosity, but it is more available than expressed — the door is open but you have to walk through it.

Sextiles are often quieter than the other major aspects in transit work. A transit sextile is usually felt as a small opening, an opportunity, an easier moment within a longer cycle. They rarely dominate a reading, but they can be the differentiating factor in a day where larger aspects are also active.

The sextile shares a family with the trine: both are "soft" or "supportive" aspects in the traditional taxonomy. The other side of the family is the conjunction, opposition, and square, which are the "hard" or active aspects. The classification predates modern psychology and has been refined but not overturned by it.
