Why Birth Year Matters in Astrology

The outer planets (Pluto, Neptune, Uranus) move slowly through the zodiac. Pluto changes signs every 12 to 20 years; Neptune every 14 years; Uranus every 7 years. Everyone born in a given year shares those placements, which is why the outer-planet positions in your chart describe your generation rather than your individual personality.

Your sun sign, moon sign, ascendant, and personal-planet placements (Mercury, Venus, Mars) describe you specifically. The outer-planet placements describe the cultural and psychological room you walked into. Both layers matter, and reading them together is more useful than reading either one alone.
