Personal planets is a near-synonym for inner planets. Both terms describe the same five bodies — the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars — but "personal planets" emphasizes the interpretive frame: these are the placements that vary from person to person and that describe the recognizable individual.

When astrologers say a transit is hitting your personal planets, they mean it is making aspects to the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars in your natal chart. These transits are felt as personally significant, often very specifically and sometimes painfully, because they touch the parts of you that you experience as you. A Saturn transit to natal Venus, for instance, often coincides with a period of relationship reassessment or the felt scarcity of love.

In contrast, a transit moving through a region of the sky that is not aspecting any of your personal planets — a Pluto square Pluto transit, for example, which everyone in a generation gets at the same age — is felt more as a collective shift or background condition than as a personally addressed event.
