Astrocartography maps your birth chart onto the world. A birth chart records where every planet sat in the sky at your exact moment of birth. Astrocartography asks a different question of that same moment. It asks where on Earth each planet was on one of the four angles: rising in the east, setting in the west, straight overhead, or directly underfoot. A planet is at its strongest on those angles, so the tool draws a line across the globe for each one.
The technique goes back to Jim Lewis, who named it and built the first maps in the 1970s. The astronomy behind it is ordinary. It uses the same planet positions any birth chart uses, drawn on a map instead of a wheel. This tool works them out live in your browser, accurate to a fraction of an arcminute.

You do not have to move to get something from this. Most people start with the place they already live, then the places they are curious about. Search a city and read the lines that run near it. If a Venus or Jupiter line is close, that place tends to be kind to you. If a Saturn line is close, it may ask more of you than it gives back. A line does not have to sit exactly on a city to count. Within a few hundred kilometres its themes are still in the air, fading as you travel away.
The strongest spots on the map are usually not the single lines but the crossings, where two planets meet in one place. A Venus line crossing a Jupiter line is a rare pocket of ease and luck. A Sun line crossing a Saturn line asks you to earn your visibility. Crossings are worth noticing because they concentrate two themes at once, which is often why a place feels unusually charged the moment you land.
There is no universally good line, only lines that fit what you want. For rest and love, people look for Venus and the Moon. For growth and opportunity, Jupiter. For confidence and being seen, the Sun. For focus and building something real, Saturn, which is demanding but not unkind. The angle matters just as much. A Venus line on your Midheaven lifts your public life, while the same Venus line on your Descendant softens your relationships. Always read the planet and the angle together.
A line is strongest within a few hundred kilometres of it, and its pull fades as you travel away. Where two lines cross, both planets concentrate in one place. Hold all of it lightly, though.
