Your Cosmic Type is a classification system developed by ZODIA that combines your rising sign with the element of your moon sign to produce one of 48 distinct archetypal identities. It is not sun sign personality typing. It is a more precise framework built on the two placements that most directly shape how you move through daily life and how you process what happens to you.
There are 12 rising signs and 4 elements (fire, earth, air, water) that your moon can belong to. Twelve multiplied by four produces 48 combinations. If your rising sign is Capricorn and your moon is in a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces), your Cosmic Type is Capricorn Rising, Water Moon. That combination describes someone who presents to the world as structured and ambitious but processes experience through deep emotional undercurrents.
The system intentionally groups the three signs within each element together for the moon. A Pisces moon, a Cancer moon, and a Scorpio moon are all water moons, and while they express that water differently, they share a fundamental orientation toward emotional depth, intuition, and sensitivity. The rising sign provides the specificity. The moon element provides the emotional operating system.
Sun sign astrology became popular because the sun sign is easy to calculate. You only need a birthday. But the sun describes your core identity and sense of purpose, which is not the same thing as how you actually move through a day, make decisions under pressure, or present yourself to strangers.

Using the full moon sign would produce 144 combinations (12 rising signs times 12 moon signs), which is more granular than necessary for a typology system. The element level captures the essential emotional orientation without fragmenting into distinctions too fine to be useful at a classification level.
A Gemini moon and an Aquarius moon are both air moons. They both process emotions through intellect, conversation, and a certain distance from raw feeling. The differences between them matter and show up in your full chart reading, but for the purposes of typing, the shared air quality is the dominant signal. The Cosmic Type tells you the broad story. Your full chart tells you the specific one.
Your Cosmic Type describes the intersection of your public operating style and your private emotional needs. An Aries Rising with an Earth Moon is someone who leads with initiative, courage, and directness but whose inner life requires stability, routine, and material security. A Libra Rising with a Fire Moon is someone who presents as diplomatic and partnership-oriented but whose emotional engine runs on passion, excitement, and creative self-expression.
These combinations produce real behavioral patterns. The person whose rising sign projects calm authority but whose moon element demands constant stimulation lives in a specific kind of tension. The person whose rising sign craves variety but whose moon element needs emotional consistency lives in another. Sun sign personality typing assigns you to one of twelve categories based on birthday alone. It treats all Leos as fundamentally similar and all Virgos as fundamentally similar.
