Every Sign in Every House: All 144 Placement Meanings

The full matrix. Pick a house, pick a sign, read the page.

This hub lists every sign in every house. There are 12 houses, 12 signs, and 144 ways those two systems can combine in a natal chart. Each combination has a specific flavor that this set of pages covers, one at a time.

Houses describe areas of life: the 1st is the body and the self, the 7th is partnership, the 10th is career, the 4th is home. Signs describe character: Aries fights, Taurus settles, Gemini talks, Cancer protects, and so on through the twelve. When a sign sits on the cusp of a house, that sign's character colors the entire topic of that house.

The same person can have Aries on the 7th (partnership) and Capricorn on the 10th (career), and the two life areas will feel different in completely predictable ways. The Aries 7th will partner with fighters. The Capricorn 10th will build a career slowly and seriously. Same chart, different flavors per room.

ZODIA uses Whole Sign houses, the original Hellenistic system. In Whole Sign, your rising sign rules the entire 1st house and each subsequent sign rules each subsequent house in order. So if you are Aries rising, your houses run Aries (1st), Taurus (2nd), Gemini (3rd), Cancer (4th), Leo (5th), Virgo (6th), Libra (7th), Scorpio (8th), Sagittarius (9th), Capricorn (10th), Aquarius (11th), Pisces (12th). This system is the most consistent across the historical record and the one we use here.

Find your rising sign at our free birth chart calculator. Once you have your house layout, use the matrix below to read each placement. Read your 1st (your body and presentation), your 7th (your partnership), your 10th (your career), and your 4th (your home) first. Those four houses (the angular houses) are the most concrete and the most useful to start with.

You can also read the full overview of the 12 houses for context on what each house governs, before clicking through to specific placements.

How to use this hub

The matrix below is the fastest way to find a placement. Pick the house (row) and the sign (column), and click through to the page for that combination. Each page explains what the house governs, what the sign brings to it, the specific combo flavor, how it shows up in daily life, and the growth edge.

If you prefer to read by house (all 12 signs in the 1st, then all 12 in the 2nd, and so on), the list-by-house section follows the matrix.

About this hub

What is a House x Sign placement?

Each natal chart is divided into 12 houses, and each house has a sign sitting on its cusp. The sign colors how you experience that house's topic. House x Sign placements describe how a specific sign flavors a specific life area.

Which house system does ZODIA use?

We use Whole Sign houses, the original Hellenistic system. In Whole Sign, the rising sign rules the entire 1st house and each subsequent sign in order rules the next house. This system is the most consistent across history and the one we recommend for accurate house meanings.

How do I find my house placements?

Calculate your full natal chart at our free birth chart calculator. You need your birth date, time, and place. The chart will show you which sign sits on each of the 12 houses in your specific layout.

Do all 144 combinations have meaningful differences?

Yes. Each sign brings a distinct character (element, modality, ruler) to each house's specific topic. The same sign in two different houses produces different life experiences, and the same house run by two different signs produces different patterns. The 144 combinations are the actual map.

Why does this matter more than my sun sign?

Your sun sign tells you about your core identity. Your house placements tell you where in life that identity gets expressed and how each life area runs. House x Sign placements give the specific, concrete texture of your daily experience in each area.
